With budgets having to stretch further and ultra-processed foods lining supermarket shelves, it’s never been more important for pupils to enjoy a delicious, healthy and sustainable meal during school hours. “Nutritious food is pivotal to children’s long-term health, wellbeing, learning and development,” Shares Evie Tanner MSC ANUTR, Medical Diet Nutritionist at Chartwells
“By showing our commitment to meeting Gold Food for Life Served Here standards, both our clients and the parents and carers of our future generations can be reassured that their children are served food that is not only nutritious and delicious, but also of the highest of standards.”
Being Food for Life Served Here Gold certified means that Chartwells provides ethically and environmentally friendly food, champion local producers and serve 15% organic produce. Across Bristol, 7500 of these healthy and sustainable meals are being served to pupils by Chartwells each day.
“It is fantastic to be able to showcase that we are working hard to pioneer new partnerships with local businesses and suppliers, for fresh, local and sustainable. The Soil Association’s hometown is Bristol and we are really proud to demonstrate that our meals across Bristol are served in line with the highest level of Food for Life Served Here Standards”
Seeing such commitment to healthy and sustainable food and knowing so many pupils across Bristol and the UK are enjoying good food at school is inspiring. Caron Longden, Head of Business Development, Food for Life Served Here, knows how much work it takes for caterers to reach this level of certification.
“I would like to congratulate Chartwells on the renewal of their Silver and Gold Food for Life Served Here awards. A testament that through all the challenges of recent times they have secured our highest levels of award once again. We are all hugely proud of their achievement and the difference they are making.”
