Oaklands Primary School get cooking to reduce food waste

After receiving a bundle of equipment and recipes from Food for Life, they decided to use Cook and Share’s Soup Chooser resource to create their own soup. “Making soup is fun, cheap and easy to make,” they explained.

Pupils prepared the ingredients using their knife skills, carefully and safely chopping the pumpkin and apple into cubes using the bridge method. They especially enjoyed blitzing the soup in the blender, with one pupil exclaiming that it “was amazing!”

After the soup was ready, it was shared with others across the school – many who had never tried pumpkin before. “It was a fabulous way to end the week with fresh, homemade soup made from ingredients we already had in school. Sustainable, delicious, and thoroughly enjoyable – we’re already planning the next soup!”
