RA Venues have once again shown their commitment to serving healthy and sustainable food. They’ve renewed their Food for Life Served Here silver certification at their Bristol attractions. Both Bristol Museum & Art Gallery and the city’s MShed have achieved the Soil Association’s renowned catering certification. We speak to Richard Twelvetree, Head Chef at MShed to find out why the accolade means so much.
Why is achieving the certification so important to you and your team?
Personally, I love that we are doing the ‘right thing’ when it comes to food. Achieving the silver Food for Life certification is very important to me and my team because it drives us daily to provide our customers with produce that is the best it can be. We take pride in working with our local suppliers to bring to the table good, honest, healthy food.
What impact has gaining the certification had on your organisation and diners?
Having the certification…is a lovely connection between diners and the catering operation. It creates a trust between us that what we are promising is what we are delivering.
How did you find the certification process?
The application process was brilliant. After I submitted evidence, it was only a short while to get approved or to receive additional notes to help me achieve each section.
What top tip would you give to those considering certification?
To have the passion and drive to deliver on a promise and to be positive and welcoming about things you might learn on the certification journey. This is a benefit to you and your customers. You will get the support from Food For Life to help you achieve your goals, even though at first you might think it is a huge task to achieve. Step by step, you will get there.
Would you recommend being certified to other organisations or colleagues?
Absolutely. It’s an accreditation that any professional caterer can be proud of having.
