Steel City Schools Partnership Trust achieve Food for Life Served Here Bronze Award

Food for Life Served Here standard meals positively impact not only customers eating the meals, but the organisations they are prepared for, the teams involved in cooking them and the local economy.

Steel City Schools Partnership Trust have an in-house catering service, working with nine schools in Sheffield to facilitate school meal service and ensure meals are healthy and sustainable, made with fresh ingredients with high welfare and low food miles.

Gary Leesley, Trust Catering Manager at Steel City Schools Partnership, says:

“It’s been difficult in the current climate, with challenges around food prices and availability, but achieving the Food for Life Served Here Bronze Award is well worth the effort for the end result which is better food, nutrition, and food education for our children. We’re proud to see the children are all eating healthier meals and enjoying them too. The Food for Life Served Here Award is an assurance for parents that our meals comply with the School Food Standards, provide sustainable menu options and give children the opportunity to try new things.”

Food for Life’s whole school approach means embedding a good food culture in all aspects of school life and across the curriculum, with a focus on food education and training.

Beyond serving healthy and sustainable meals, the Trust catering teams also work with their schools to facilitate curriculum cooking and breakfast clubs, where pupils get involved in making healthy meals.

Rose Elliott, Business Development Manager at Food for Life Served Here says:

“It was an absolute pleasure to go to Monteney Primary School in Sheffield to present Steel City Schools Partnership with their Food for Life Served Here Bronze Award. It was really inspiring to see their work in action and meet the kitchen team. You can tell that children’s health and wellbeing is at the heart of what Steel City Schools Partnership do, demonstrated by wonderful gestures such as providing each child with a bagel at breakfast time in their classrooms. They are also committed to doing good for the community, working with their existing suppliers to achieve accreditation and ensuring local ingredients with low food miles are being used.”
