11 Leicestershire schools achieve Food for Life award in 2024

This is a brilliant achievement for Leicestershire and means more parents than ever can feel confident that their children are eating well at school.

One Food for Life school, Newbold Verdon Primary, recently cooked Bombay-style chickpeas with their pupils. Nicola, Deputy Head at the school, shared:

“They absolutely loved it. They enjoyed seeing the process from start to finish – opening tins, smelling spices, putting things together. They definitely want to try chickpeas again and are hoping they’ll cook them at home too. Often, children don’t want to try new food, but every single pupil did try it and enjoyed it.”

In addition to this, Natalie Hackett, Headteacher at New Lubbesthorpe Primary School, won the School Leader Food Hero Award in Jamie Oliver’s Good School Food Awards. New Lubbesthorpe Primary School hold a Food for Life Silver Award, which means their school food is 75% freshly prepared and 5% organic and that they embed a whole school approach to food from canteen to classroom.
