Celebrating Food for Life Schools and Nurseries in Walsall

Tags:

The celebration event was the first that has been able to go ahead since 2019 and gave the schools and nurseries a chance to get together and share stories of their FFL journeys. Children and staff took part in FFL activities where they were able to decorate plant pots and stone markers, and plant seeds and herbs to take back to their schools and nurseries. They created bird feeders and bug hotels using recycled or foraged materials, and took part in competitions to understand more about seasonal fruit and vegetables as well as food miles.

Attendees heard presentations from pupils at Pinfold Street Primary (FFL Bronze Award holders) and Radleys Primary (working towards FFL Bronze) about the amazing changes they have made as part of their FFL award progress. The schools and nurseries also produced some fantastic posters and memory books that were displayed around the hall for everyone to take a look at throughout the day.

The event finished with award presentations for 5 schools and nurseries that have recently achieved their FFL School or Early Years Awards - Pinfold Street Primary, Walsall Wood Primary, Little Professors Nursery, Blossoms on the Common Nursery and St Marys of the Angels Primary. Schools and nurseries that had been awarded in 2020 and 2021 were also celebrated as they had missed out on the chance to be part of a celebration event - Kangaroo Pouch Harden, St Bernadette’s Primary, Kangaroo Pouch Willenhall, Kangaroo Pouch Bloxwich, Greenfield Primary, Barcroft Primary, St Johns CE Primary, Leighswood School, Abu Bakr Nursery, Little Crickets Nursery, Kings Hill Primary, Oakwood School and Shepwell School.

FFL Walsall now has 40 schools and nurseries that have achieved a Food for Life Award. We look forward to the next celebration event were we have no doubt there will be even more awards to give out!

Well done to all the FFL schools and nurseries in Walsall.
