What is a Food for Life Early Years Award

A Food for Life Early Years Award is a great way to show you're giving the children in your care the best possible start. You're teaching them the importance of good food and healthy habits, setting them up for life.

What do I need to do?

Early years settings that achieve a Food for Life Award are:

  • providing tasty, nutritious meals
  • teaching children to cook, grow and eat fresh, healthy and sustainable food
  • developing good social skills, engaging families and enriching the EYFS curriculum

To achieve your award you’ll work through a series of activities, developed with leading early years practitioners. You can read the full list of activities here.

  • you meet Ofsted requirements for ‘practitioners to provide a healthy diet and give clear and consistent messages to children that support healthy choices around food.’
