Over a million Food for Life Served Here certified meals are served in the UK EVERY DAY

A minimum of 75% of dishes on Food for Life Served Here menus are freshly prepared from minimally processed ingredients

61% of energy intake from school meals in UK primary schools comes from ultra-processed food. Food for Life helps to combat this

Whole school approach

Our Schools programme currently reaches 250,000 children across the UK, embedding the whole school approach in 598 education settings.

Five a day

Pupils in Food for Life schools are twice as likely to eat five a day than pupils in comparison schools

The joy of food

Pupils in Food for Life schools are 40% more likely to report that they 'like' or 'really like' school meals

We empower communities to connect through good food

My Food Community – leadership development course

Empowerment through development

68% of participants regarded themselves as a community leader in food activities after taking part in My Food Community

Creating change

46% developed ‘extremely strong’ skills to create change in food systems

Community engagement campaigns (Cook & Share / Plant & Share)

Lasting change

98% participants decided to continue or grow their community food activities after being involved in the campaigns

Positive attitudes and connection

Participating in the campaigns enhanced positive attitudes towards ageing (64%) and diversity (68%), addressed loneliness and isolation (83%) and helped people connect with each other (99%)

Jana Fried and Lopamudra Patnaik Saxena Healthy and Sustainable Diets for Children - Opportunities for Local Authorities

This report analyses the role that local authorities can play in achieving healthy and sustainable diets for children. We provide a short overview of some key trends in children’s diets in the UK and introduce UNICEF’s Innocenti Framework to examine the influence of the ‘food system’ on children’s dietary choices.

This research was conducted by Coventry University, Research Centre Agroecology, Water and Resilience (CAWR) on behalf of Soil Association’s Food for Life Get Together programme which was funded by the National Lottery Community Fund.
